Duration; 6 days
Course content
Module 2: Counseling; Orients participants to the purpose, differences and interrelatedness of IPC counseling and client education in strategic HIV communication.
Module 3: Client education; Introduces participants to the principles, process, and context of client education and its use within health education and counseling.
Module 4: IPC; Introduce participants to specific communication techniques and skills relevant to counseling and offer participants the opportunity to master these skills through practical role-plays.
Module 5: Applications; Integrates IPC, counseling and client education proficiency in various HIV-counseling contexts.
This course is presented by experienced counselors from the Office for Institutional HIV Coordination (OIHC) at Stellenbosch University.
About the Department
The Office for Institutional HIV Co-ordination (OIHC) is responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive institutional HIV strategy for Stellenbosch University. As the University’s HIV unit, the OIHC serves as consultant on HIV prevention, education and service delivery to both students and staff, and forms a strategic link with other higher education institutions, as well as national and international HIV organizations. The OIHC performs a leadership function in the realization of shared responsibility for the vision of a campus free of new HIV infections by 2012.
