CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE (CoE)

To promote effective strategic communication practices and build sustainable communication capacity, AfriComNet has embarked on an exciting and innovative partnership with five African Universities and one Training Institution, referred to as Centers of Excellence in the countries of Uganda, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa and Ethiopia, to develop and institutionalize training in Strategic Communication for Health and Development with a focus on HIV and AIDS. As of September 2008, AfriComNet with the Centers of Excellence has developed and offered six courses namely:

1. Basics of HIV and AIDS Strategic Communication
2. HIV and AIDS Stigma and Discrimination
3. Research, Monitoring and Evaluation for HIV/AIDS Communication Programs
4. Utilization of Demographic and Health Survey’s (DHS) for Health Programming
5. Applied Skills in HIV Communication and Counseling
6. Community Mobilization for Health and Development

The courses that can also be tailor made to cater for specific needs of different institutions, organizations and groups of individuals have already benefited individuals from the public, civil society and academic institutions in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Namibia, Zambia, Ethiopia and South Africa.
