AfriComNet receives funding from:
Family Health International (FHI) Regional Outreach Addressing AIDS through Development Strategies (ROADS) project and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Communication Programmes (JHU/CCP) since 2003, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) & President Bush’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

USAID's history goes back to the Marshall Plan reconstruction of Europe after World War Two and the Truman Administration's Point Four Program. In 1961, the Foreign Assistance Act was signed into law and USAID was created by executive order.
Since that time, USAID has been the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. HOME: www.usaid.gov

President Bush launched the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to combat global HIV/AIDS - the largest commitment by any nation to combat a single disease in history.
Through the Emergency Plan, the U.S. Government is working with international, national and local leaders worldwide to support integrated prevention, treatment and care programs. HOME: www.pepfar.gov

The Johns Hopkins University/Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is a pioneer in the field of strategic, research-based communication for behavior change and health promotion that has helped transform the theory and practice of public health. CCP was established at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1988 in recognition of the proven importance of communication in public health programs and in keeping with the leadership role the Johns Hopkins University has played in this field.

The ROADS project is designed to reduce HIV transmission, improve care, and reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS along major transport corridors in East Africa namely Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

UNAIDS (in 2007, to partially meet the costs of the regional practicum held in Addis Abba Ethiopia from 5 - 9th August 2007, with the theme “HIV and Alcohol, Gender Norms and Gender-Based Violence: A Strategic Communication Perspective”)
